7 easy steps for a positive day ahead

After spending over a year in lockdown, the thought of going back to the office can feel daunting. If you are dreading the idea of the 7am alarm, the busy commute and the rushed cup of coffee, we can help. Discover our fave morning routine hacks.

We have rounded up some simple tips to help you bring some calm to your weekday mornings. Building a routine can help you structure your day and build a more positive energy to help you face the tasks ahead. No matter how busy your work day is going to be or how bad your previous day was, use these steps to help you hit refresh every morning.

  1. Make your bed
  2. Avoid the morning scroll
  3. Create a getting ready routine to fit in your time frame
  4. Drink some water
  5. Eat (or at least prep) some breakfast
  6. Do one thing you enjoy
  7. Make a list

how to nail your Morning routine 101

Find out the latest on the government guidelines on our return to the office.

It might not seem like much, but a little can go a long way. By making your bed, you are shutting off the temptation to get back in and confirming in your mind that sleep time is over and that it is time to start the day.

2. Avoid the morning scroll

Catching up on Insta stories and having a quick tiktok scroll can seem WAY more tempting than actually getting up, but it isn’t great for your productivity. We often find ourselves scrolling for way too long and throwing our whole morning routine out of the window. This can lead to starting the day off in a negative mood and running late. If you were gonna spend half an hour scrolling, you could have just had more sleep instead.

3. Create a getting ready routine to fit in your time frame

Nothing ruins a day like rushing first thing in the morning. Take some time to actually work out how long it will take you to complete every part of your ‘getting ready routine’ and add on ten minutes, just in case your eyeliner goes wrong. This means that you aren’t putting unnecessary pressure on yourself before work.

4. Drink some water

We are not telling you to ditch the caffeine, but add a glass of water into your morning routine too. You can add some lemon for a bit of sweetness if you are so inclined. This will refresh your body after a long sleep and ensure you are hydrated for the day ahead. (Plus, who doesn’t want glowy skin?).

5. Eat or prep breakfast

We are not expecting a full spread of pastries and freshly squeezed juice, but taking some time to make or prep some breakfast can help you build out your morning routine. Whether you opt for some overnight oats to take into the office, or just pop some bread in the toaster, you’re off to a good start. This means that your stressful morning at work doesn’t need to be centered around if (and when) you can stop for food.

6. Do one thing you enjoy

Now we aren’t telling everyone to go on a three mile walk before work or eat at their favourite brunch spot, because who has time for that?! Instead do something simple that will set you up for the day. This could be 10 minutes of yoga, listening to your fave podcast whilst you do your makeup or grabbing a fancy coffee on your way to the bus stop. Sometimes the smallest things have the biggest impact on your mood.

7. Make a list

One of the worst feelings about a work morning is being overwhelmed. Create a list before bed or in the morning. Take a look over it before you head out to work. This will help you put some perspective on your day and encourage you to smash your goals.

What to wear for your return to the office

If workwear outfits are stressing you out, we got you. We also recommend prepping your outfit the night before and removing it from your morning routine. 1 less thing to worry about. Get inspired with some of our fave summer workwear outfits.
